ORLANDO, FLA. -- The Trine University women's tennis team defeated Morningside College to begin their spring break trip by the score of 8-1.
The Thunder came out of the doubles portion with a 2-1 lead on the Mustangs. Senior Madison Hatkevich (Granger, Ind. / Edwardsburg) and freshman Zoe Laubach (Niles, Mich. / Edwardsburg) took home the victory in the No. 1 doubles match by the score of 8-4. Sophomore Kyra Braun (Portland, Ind. / Jay County) and freshman Katie Simon (Paw Paw, Mich. / Paw Paw) took the No. 3 doubles match by forfeit.
Trine then pulled away sweeping the singles portion to win the match 8-1. Hatkevich took the No. 1 match 7-5,6-4. Braun came back in her No. 3 match to grab the victory 1-6, 6-2, 10-6. Senior Kinnsey Pass (Lafayette, Ind. / Jefferson) won her lone match of the day 7-6 (7-6), 6-3.
The Thunder will take the courts again tomorrow, March 6, when they face off with Covenant College at 6 p.m.
