Women's Tennis Clinch MIAA Tournament Berth

ANGOLA, IND. -- The Trine University women's tennis team defeated visiting Alma College by the score of 7-2. With the victory, the Thunder clinch the fifth spot in the standings and due to Kalamazoo College being ineligible for Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) postseason play will participate in the MIAA tournament for the first time since 2008.

Trine picked up two of the three possible points in the doubles portion of the match to come away with the 2-1 lead. Senior Kinnsey Pass (Lafayette, Ind. / Jefferson) and freshman Andrea Jordan (New Haven, Ind. / New Haven) came away with the victory in the No. 2 match by the score of 8-5. In the No. 3 match sophomore Kyra Braun (Portland, Ind. / Jay County)) and freshman Katie Simon (Paw Paw, Mich. / Paw Paw) picked up the victory 8-2.

The Thunder clinched the 7-2 victory by taking five of the six singles matches. Freshman Zoe Laubach (Niles, Mich. / Edwardsburg) came away with the victory in the No. 2 match with scores of 6-1, 6-1. In the No. 3 match Pass came away with a win with scores of 6-1, 6-0. Junior Theresa Magenheimer (Indianapolis, Ind. / Hamilton Heights) defeated her opponent in the No. 4 match with scores of 6-3, 6-1. Braun came away with a 6-0, 6-1 victory while Simon won with scores of 6-2, 6-2.

Trine will compete in the first round of the MIAA Tournament on Thursday, May 3. The opponent and time of the contest have yet to be determined.
