GRANGER, Ind. -- The Trine University women's tennis team came away with two doubles match victories, while coming up just short in the third, but still fell to host Bethel (Ind.) College by the score of 6-3.
The first doubles victory for the Thunder came in the No. 1 match from the team of freshmen Ashley Spirrison (Fishers / Hamilton Southeastern) and Tatum Matthews (Midland, Mich. / Herbert Henry Dow), who finished off their opponents 8-6. Trine also picked up the No. 3 match, where sophomore Andrea Jordan (New Haven / New Haven) and freshman Camille Lozier (Elkhart / Concord) came away with an 8-6 victory of their own. In the No. 2 match, junior Kyra Braun (Portland / Jay County) and sophomore Katie Simon (Paw Paw, Mich. / Paw Paw) came up just short dropping their match 7-9.
Trine picked up their final point of the contest in the No. 1 singles match, where Spirrison came away with the 6-4, 7-5 victory.
The Thunder fall to 2-1 after the loss. They will next take the courts on Wednesday, Sept. 19 when Trine hosts Indiana University-Kokomo for a 4:30 p.m. match.
