Women's Tennis Starts Spring Break with Win

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Trine University women's tennis team defeated King's (Pa.) College by the score of 7-2 during their first match of the spring break trip.

Trine came away with two of the three doubles matches to start the contest with a 2-1 lead. Freshmen Ashley Spirrison (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern) and Tatum Matthews (Midland, Mich. / Herbert Henry Dow) came away with the No. 1 match victory by the score of 8-3. Junior Kyra Braun (Portland, Ind. / Jay County) and sophomore Katie Simon (Paw Paw, Mich. / Paw Paw) came up with the other doubles victory for the Thunder, 8-0.

The team then took five of six singles matches for the 7-2 victory. Spirrison took the No. 1 match 6-4, 7-5 and Matthews took the No. 2 match 6-2, 6-2. Braun also went undefeated in the contest winning the No. 4 match with scores of 6-3, 6-3.

Sophomore Delaney Keirn (Claypool, Ind. / Whitko) came away with a victory in the No. 5 match with scores of 6-1, 6-0. Freshman Camille Lozier (Elkhart, Ind. / Concord) added the team's final point in the No. 6 match with scores of 6-2, 6-0.

The Thunder improve to 4-2 following the victory. They will continue their slate of games in Florida by facing off with Coe College tomorrow, March 5 at 6:30 p.m.
