Spirrison Named Athlete of the Week

ANGOLA, Ind. - Freshman Ashley Spirrison (Fishers / Hamilton Southeastern) has been named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) women's tennis Athlete of the Week.

It is the second time this season, and in her career, that Spirrison has been named athlete of the week.

Spirrison finished the week an undefeated 4-0 in No. 1 singles while also going 2-2 in No. 1 doubles during the team's spring break slate of games.

Against King's (Pa.) she had her first undefeated contest of the week coming up with doubles and singles victories in the team's 7-2 win. Her second undefeated day came in a loss against the strong team from Otterbein where she accounted for both of the team's points as they fell 7-2.

The Thunder's final two contests of the week were close 5-4 victories and in both Spirrison came away with tough wins to help the team to victory. Against Coe she helped complete the comeback victory with a 6-2, 7-5 win in the singles portion of the contest. The same was the case against Carthage where she took the No. 1 singles match with scores of 6-0, 7-6 (7-3).

Trine currently sits at 6-3 following their trip to Florida. They will take the courts again on Wednesday, March 20 when they host Bethel (Ind.) for a 4 p.m. contest.
