Women's Tennis Overpowers Olivet

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. -- The Trine University women's tennis team finished their week undefeated after they swept host Olivet College in their second Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) win of the season.

The freshman team of Ashley Spirrison (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern) and Tatum Matthews (Midland, Mich. / Herbert Henry Dow) came up with the win in the No. 1 doubles match by the score of 8-1. In the No. 2 match, the team of sophomore Andrea Jordan (New Haven, Ind. / New Haven) and freshman Camille Lozier (Elkhart, Ind. / Concord) took down their opponents with the score of 8-2. The Thunder took the No. 3 match by the score of 8-4, with junior Kyra Braun (Portland, Ind. / Jay County) and sophomore Katie Simon (Paw Paw, Mich. / Paw Paw) earning the win.

Four members of Trine went on to finish the match undefeated by winning their singles match ups. Spirrison swept the No. 1 match; Matthews took the No. 2 match with scores of 6-3, 6-2; Braun came away with the 6-0, 6-2 win in the No. 3 match and Lozier won the No. 5 match 6-0, 6-1.

Freshman Ellie Cole (Albion, Ind. / Central Noble) took the No. 6 match with scores of 6-0, 6-1 for the Thunder. Sophomore Delaney Keirn (Claypool, Ind. / Whitko) finished off the win with scores of 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 4 match.

Trine improves to 8-6 overall and 2-1 in the MIAA following the win. They will face off with Albion College on Wednesday, April 10 for their next match. It is set to start at 4 p.m.
