Women's Tennis Drops Conference Dual to Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Trine University women's tennis team fell to host Kalamazoo College by the score of 8-1.

The Thunder came just short of two victories during the doubles portion of the contest but ultimately allowed the Hornets to take the 3-0 lead. Freshmen Ashley Spirrison (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern) and Tatum Matthews (Midland, Mich. / Herbert Henry Dow) forced a tiebreaker before dropping the No. 1 match 8-7 (7-4). The same was true for junior Kyra Braun (Portland, Ind. / Jay County) and freshman Ellie Cole (Albion, Ind. / Central Noble) who fell in the No. 3 match 8-7 (8-6).

The lone victory of the afternoon for the Thunder came in the No. 1 singles match where Spirrison came away with the hard-fought victory with scores of 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 10-3.

Trine falls to 10-8 overall and 4-3 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play following the loss. They will finish off the regular season by hosting Calvin College on Saturday, April 27. The dual is set to begin at 1 p.m.
