ANGOLA, Ind. – Sophomore Ashley Spirrison (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern) has been named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) women's tennis Athlete of the Week.
This is the third time in her career and the first time this year that Spirrison has garnered the award.
Spirrison finished last week with an undefeated 4-0 record while competing in both No. 1 singles and doubles matches.
The Thunder started their fall season with a match against Bethel (Ind.) University. While the team came up short Spirrison picked up two victories in the contest. In the No. 1 doubles match, Spirrison and classmate Ellie Cole (Albion, Ind. / Central Noble) came away with a 6-1 victory. She then went on to take the No. 1 singles match with scores of 6-2, 6-0.
In the team's second match of the week, Spirrison came up with the team's lone victories against Indiana University Kokomo. She took the No. 1 doubles with a score of 6-0 and the No. 1 singles match with scores of 6-1, 6-1.
