Women's Tennis Drops Tight Match to Anderson

ANDERSON, Ind. -- The Trine University women's tennis team took the dual match to the final pairing but came up just short dropping the contest by the score of 5-4 to hosts Anderson (Ind.) University.

The Thunder started the contest with a pair of victories during the doubles portion of the contest. Sophomores Ashley Spirrison (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern) and Ellie Cole (Albion, Ind. / Central Noble) took the No. 1 match by the score of 8-4. The No. 2 team of senior Kyra Braun (Portland, Ind. / Jay County) and junior Trista Savage (Bryan, Ohio / Bryan) needed a tiebreaker but came away with the win, 8-7 (7-4).

The pair of wins gave the team a 2-1 lead heading into the singles portion of the competition. Braun gave the team another point in the No. 2 singles match with a marathon match, winning with scores of 7-6 (7-4), 7-5. Cole would also go undefeated on the day taking the No. 5 with scores of 6-4, 6-3.

Trine was unable to pick up a final win however and would job the match 5-4.

The Thunder fall to 0-4 following the match. Members of the team will travel to Kalamazoo, Mich. To compete in the ITA Regional Championships starting on Thursday, Sept. 19.
