KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Members of the Trine University women's tennis team competed at the 2019 ITA Division III Women's Central Regional Championship hosted by Kalamazoo College this past weekend.
Two Thunder competed as individuals at the event. Senior Kyra Braun (Portland, Ind. / Jay County) competed but lost her first two matches to bow out of the event.
Sophomore Ashley Spirrison (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern) entered the weekend seeded eighth but dropped her first match of the competition with scores of 6-2, 6-1 to fall into the back draw. She would go on to win two straight matches, the first with scores of 6-3, 6-0 and the second with scores of 6-2, 6-0. She finally eliminated with another loss.
Spirrison also competed in the doubles portion of the tournament with classmate Ellie Cole (Albion, Ind. / Central Noble) as a partner. The team was unable to pick up a win and bowed out after two matches.
The entire squad will be back in action on Thursday, Sept. 26 when they host Grace (Ind.) College for a dual match scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
