Women's Tennis Take First Win of Season

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Trine University women's tennis team came up big on the first day of their spring break trip with a 9-0 win over King's College.

The Thunder started strong in the double's portion of the contest and never looked back. the team of Ashley Spirrison (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern) and Ellie Cole (Albion, Ind. / Central Noble) took the No. 1 match by the score of 8-3. Katie Simon (Paw Paw, Mich. / Paw Paw) and Trista Savage (Bryan Ohio, Bryan) took the No. 3 match with the same score. Eva Morales (Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart Memorial) and Andrea Jordan (New Haven, Ind. / New Haven) took the No. 2 match 8-2.

Five members of the team went undefeated in the match by winning their singles match. Spirrison picked up the No. 1 singles match 6-2, 6-1 and Morales took the No. 3 with scores of 6-4, 6-0. Braun came up with the 6-2, 6-0 win in the No. 4 match and Cole won No. 5 6-0, 6-3. Savage rounded out the group with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.

Camille Lozier (Elkhart, Ind. / Concord) won the No. 2 match with scores of 6-1, 6-0 to round out the sweep.

The Thunder improve to 1-5 following the win. They will face off with Wartburg College tomorrow, Tuesday, March 3 at 11:30 a.m. The contest will take place at the USTA National Tennis Center in Orlando, Fla.
