Spirrison Named MIAA Athlete of the Week

FREELAND, Mich. -- Sophomore Ashley Spirrison (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern) has been named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) women's tennis Athlete of the Week. 

This is the fourth time in her career and the second time this season that Spirrison has garnered the award.

Spirrison went 4-0 in No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles to finish the week 8-0 overall as the team went 3-1 during their spring break slate of games.

The Thunder started the week with a 9-0 victory over King's (Pa.) College, Spirrison won 8-3 in doubles and 6-2, 6-1 in singles. The team then suffered its lone loss of the week to Wartburg College by the score of 6-3, Spirrison accounted for two of those points with an 8-4 win in doubles and a 6-1, 6-0 win in singles.

Trine finished off the week with two 8-1 victories the first over Emerson College and the second over Concordia College Moorhead. Against Emerson, Spirrison picked up an 8-1 victory in doubles and then won her singles match in straight sets. Then against Concordia-Moorhead, Spirrison picked up an 8-2 win in doubles and then a 6-0, 6-2 win in singles.

The Thunder currently sit at 3-6 overall. They will host Franklin College in their next match on Saturday, March 21. The contest is set to start at noon.
