Women's Tennis Opens Season with 7-2 Victory

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University women's tennis team started the season well with a 7-2 victory over visiting Indiana University Kokomo.

The Thunder started strong from the beginning taking all three of the doubles matches in the contest. In the No. 1 match juniors Ashley Spirrison (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern) and Ellie Cole (Albion, Ind. / Central Noble) picked up an 8-3 win, but the most convincing victory came in the No. 3 match where freshman Jadyn Davis (Angola, Ind. / Angola) and junior Camille Lozier (Elkhart, Ind. / Concord) won by the score of 8-2. Seniors Andrea Jordan (New Haven, Ind. / New Haven) and Trista Savage (Bryan, Ohio / Bryan) took the final match 8-6.

The team would go on to secure their victory by taking four of the singles matches of the contest. Spirrison, Cole and Lozier all went undefeated on the day with 6-1, 6-1 victories in the No. 1, No. 4 and No. 6 matches. Savage finished off her undefeated night with a 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 victory in the No. 5 match.

Trine will have a quick turn around, taking the courts again on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 12:00 p.m. The home contest is scheduled to be against Calvin University.
