Women's Tennis Takes First MIAA Win from Alma

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University women's tennis team came up with an 8-1 victory over Alma College in just their second Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contest of the season.

The Thunder began with three wins in the doubles portion of the contest. Juniors Ashley Spirrison (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern) and Ellie Cole (Albion, Ind. / Central Noble) took the No. 1 match by the score of 8-4. In the No. 2 match freshman Jadyn Davis (Angola, Ind. / Angola) and junior Camille Lozier (Elkhart, Ind. / Concord) defeated their opponents 8-7 (7-4). The senior team of Andrea Jordan (New Haven, Ind. / New Haven) and Trista Savage (Bryan, Ohio / Bryan) finished off the No. 3 match with a score of 8-4.

Five members of the team went on to finish the match undefeated by picking up wins in the singles portion of the match. Spirrision took the No. 1 match and Davis took the No. 2 match each with scores of 6-2, 6-1. Cole and Lozier swept their matches (No. 4 and No. 6 respectively) in straight sets. The last win came for Savage in the No. 5 match with scores of 6-4, 6-0.

The Thunder improve to 10-2 overall and 1-1 in MIAA play. They will continue their season when they travel to face Adrian College on Wednesday, April 7 for a 4 p.m. contest.
