ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University women's tennis team refused to drop a match as they finished the day with a 9-0 victory over visiting Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) opponent Albion College.
The Thunder won two out of three doubles matches in lopsided fashion while the third was a closely contested affair. Juniors Ashley Spirrison (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern) and Ellie Cole (Albion, Ind. / Central Noble) took the No. 1 match 8-2 while freshman Jadyn Davis (Angola, Ind. / Angola) and junior Camille Lozier (Elkhart, Ind. / Concord) shutout their opponents in the No. 2 match. Seniors Andrea Jordan (New Haven, Ind. / New Haven) and Trista Savage (Bryan, Ohio / Brryan) had the closest match of the day in No. 3 doubles where they came away with an 8-6 victory.
Trine put the pedal to the metal in the singles portion of the contest. Spirrison in the No. 1 match and Lozier in the No. 6 match both came away with 6-0, 6-0 wins. Sophomore Eva Morales (Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart Memorial) and Savage took the No. 3 and No. 5 matches respectively each with scores of 6-1, 6-0. Davis came up with a 6-2, 6-0 win in the No. 2 match and Cole finished the No. 3 match with a 6-3, 6-0 win.
The Thunder improve to 13-3 overall and 4-1 in MIAA play following the victory. They will continue their season when they host Hope College for another MIAA contest. The match is set to begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 17.
