KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Trine University women's tennis team was eliminated from the 2021 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Women's Tennis Tournament with a 5-1 loss to their hosts from Kalamazoo College.
Trine finishes the season 15-5 overall and 6-2 in MIAA play following the loss. The season's 15 victories make it the winningest season in the program's NCAA Division III history. It is also the second-highest win total on record for the program.
The Thunder picked up their lone point of the match in the No. 1 doubles match. Juniors Ashley Spirrison (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern) and Ellie Cole (Albion, Ind. / Central Noble) took the match by the score of 8-2.
Three matches finished in the singles portion of the dual before the Hornets reached the required five wins to take the victory and halt the match. Spirrison, however, was well on her way to earning a second victory in the match with the No. 1 singles match ending with her in the lead 6-1, 5-2.
