Women's Tennis Sweeps Grizzlies

FRANKLIN, Ind. -- The Trine University women's tennis team remained undefeated on the season by sweeping Franklin College 9-0.

The team started the contest with a pair of quick wins in the doubles portion of the contest. Senior Ashley Spirrison (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern) and Ellie Cole (Albion, Ind. / Central Noble) in the No. 1 match and junior Eva Morales (Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart Memorial) and Lizzie Welker (Maumee, Ohio / Springfield) in the No. 3 match each came up with 8-3 wins. The final doubles win required a tiebreaker but sophomore Jadyn Davis (Angola, Ind. / Angola) and freshman Bekah Trent (Harrodsburg, Kent. / Mercer County) still picked up the 8-7 (8-2) victory.

Spirrison went on to take the No. 1 singles match in one of the most lopsided matches of the day with scores of 6-0, 6-0. In the No. 2 match Davis came up with a 6-4, 6-1 win and in the No. 3 match Trent won 6-3, 6-1. Morales picked up a sweep as well in No. 4 match while Cole just missed on one with scores of 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 5 match.

Freshman Kennedy Outwater (Bronson, Mich. / Bronson) rounded out the win with a 7-5, 6-0 win in the No. 6 match.

The Thunder improve to 3-0 following the victory. They will return to the courts tomorrow, Monday, Sept. 13 when they travel to face Manchester University for a 4 p.m. match.
