Kolar's 100th Win Comes in 8-1 Women's Tennis Victory

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Trine University women's tennis team picked up the 100th victory in tennis head coach Erin Kolar's career after defeating King's (Pa.) College by the score of 8-1.

Kolar entered the day with 98 wins between the men's and women's programs at Trine, which she has served has head coach of since 2016. The men's victory earlier today put her just won off and the women's team secured the second win of the day to reach the milestone.

The Thunder got out to a quick lead sweeping the doubles portion of the contest. The No. 1 team of seniors Ashley Spirrison (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern) and Ellie Cole (Albion, Ind. / Central Noble) picked up the win with a shutout defeating the opposition 8-0. Sophomore Jadyn Davis (Angola, Ind. / Angola) and junior Eva Morales (Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart Memorial) won the No. 2 match 8-3 and freshmen Lizzie Welker (Maumee, Ohio / Springfield Sr.) and Kennedy Outwater (Bronson, Mich. / Bronson) won the No. 3 match 8-2.

Five more wins in the singles portion of the day gave the team the final victory of 8-1. Spirrison in No. 1 (6-0, 6-1), Davis in No. 2 (6-1, 6-0) and Morales in No. 3 (6-1, 6-0) all won in lopsided fashion giving up just won game in each of their matches. Cole need a few more games to win 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 4 match and Outwater finished off the point scoring for the team with a 6-3, 6-2 win in the No. 5 match. Welker came up just short of a win in the No. 6 match losing the super tiebreaker on the way to a 3-6, 6-2, 10-8 match.

The Thunder improve to 6-2 following the win. They will face off with Covenant College tomorrow, Wednesday, March 8 in their next competition of their spring break trip. The match is set to start at 11:30 a.m.
