Thunder Double Bulldogs in 6-3 Women's Tennis Win

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University women's tennis team won a battle with visiting Adrian College by the score of 6-3. 

The Thunder would take three crucial wins in the doubles portion of the contest to build an early lead. Seniors Ashley Spirrison (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern) and Ellie Cole (Albion, Ind. / Central Noble) posted the most decisive victory in the No. 1 match by the score of 8-2. Junior Jadyn Davis (Angola, Ind. / Angola) and freshman Bekah Trent (Harrodsburg, Kent. / Mercer County Sr.) needed a few more games but came away with a comfortable 8-5 win.

The No. 3 doubles match would be a thriller. The team of junior Eva Morales (Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart Memorial) and freshman Lizzie Welker (Maumee, Ohio / Springfield Sr.) would need a tiebreaker to come away with the victory 8-7 (7-3).

Three members of the team would secure undefeated days by winning their singles matches and securing the 6-3 victory for the team. In the No. 1 singles match Spirrison would take the win 6-1, 6-2. Davis would take the No. 2 match 6-2, 6-4 and Cole would secure a 6-3, 6-2 win in the No. 5 match.

The Thunder improve to 8-4 overall and 1-1 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play following the victory. They will continue their season tomorrow, Sunday, April 3 when they travel to face Alma College for a 2 p.m. match.
