Women's Tennis Outmatched by Northwestern

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Trine University women's tennis team came up short of the squad from University of Northwestern (Minn.) falling by the score of 8-1.

The Thunder started the match down three, dropping all of the doubles matches. The No. 1 team of senior Eva Morales and freshman Elina Locane came closest to a win falling in their match 8-6.

Locane picked up a win in the No. 2 singles match to give the team their point. She defeated her opponent 6-3, 6-3.

Three other single matches would end in super tiebreakers, but all went in favor of the Eagles. Freshman Emilee Bassett was the first to force a tiebreaker coming in the No. 3 match with scores of 6-4, 5-7, 7-10. Fellow freshman Alexis Maloney followed right behind in the No. 4 match with scores of 6-7(5-7), 6-2, 5-10. Finally, sophomore Kennedy Outwater went the distance in the No. 6 match with scores of 6-0, 1-6, 6-10.

Trine falls to 5-3 overall following the loss. They will continue their season tomorrow, Wednesday, March 8 when they face off with Pennsylvania Western University, California (Pa.) starting at 8 a.m.
