Women's Tennis Wins Close Match Against Rose-Hulman

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Trine University women's tennis team won the final four matches of the dual to secure a narrow 5-4 come from behind victory over the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

The Thunder dropped two of the three doubles matches to start the contest down 2-1. The lone win came from the team of freshmen Emilee Bassett and Alexis Maloney in the No. 2 match by the score of 8-3. The team of senior Eva Morales and sophomore Lizzie Welker came up just shy of another team point dropping the No. 3 match in a super tiebreaker, 8-7 (7-5).

Trine fell behind further to start the singles portion of the competitions, after dropping the first two matches they were down 4-1. The team went on to win the final four singles matches to come back with a 5-4 victory.

Freshman Elina Locane came up with the first win in the No. 3 match with scores of 6-2, 6-4. Bassett and Maloney then both secured wins to finish the day undefeated. Bassett took the No. 4 match 6-0, 6-0 and Maloney won the No. 5 match 6-1, 6-2. Senior Bailey Pelliccia finished off the win with a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the No. 6 match.

The team improves to 8-3 following the win. They will continue their season when they travel to face Albion College for their first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contest of the season. The dual is set to start at 11 a.m.
