Women's Tennis Starts MIAA Season with Lopsided Win

ALBION, Mich. – The Trine University women's tennis team opened the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) portion of their season with an 8-1 victory over their hosts from Albion College.

The Thunder started the contest by taking all three doubles matches to build a quick 3-0 lead. The No. 1 team of sophomore Bekah Trent and freshman Elina Locane won the closest of the three matches with an 8-3 victory. Freshmen Emilee Bassett and Alexis Maloney took the No. 2 match 8-2 before senior Eva Morales and sophomore Lizzie Welker took the No. 3 match 8-0.

The team went on to win the five of the singles matches to finish the day with the 8-1 victory. Morales started things with a 6-2, 6-0 win in the No. 1 match. Locane came up with the most lopsided of the wins with a 6-0, 6-0 win in the No. 3 match, with Maloney coming just behind her with a 6-0, 6-1 win in the No. 5 match. Bassett won the No. 4 match with scores of 6-4, 6-0 and senior Bailey Pelliccia finished off the day with the closest of the wins at No. 6 with scores of 6-3, 6-4.

Trine improves to 9-3 overall and starts the season 1-0 in MIAA play after the win. They will continue their season when they travel to face Adrian College on Saturday, April 1. The match is set to begin at 11 a.m.
