Scots Blown Away by Women's Tennis

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's tennis team lead from start to finish as they picked up their second Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) win of the season by defeating Alma College 8-1.

The day started well for the team as they picked up all three doubles matches in the contest, but it took a spectacular comeback effort to secure the third. The team of seniors Eva Morales and Bailey Pelliccia won quickly in the No. 3 match by the score of 8-2. Freshmen Emilee Bassett and Alexis Maloney followed up with a much closer match at No. 2 doubles, ultimately winning 8-6.

It looked like those would be the two wins for the Thunder, with the No. 1 team of sophomore Bekah Trent and freshman Elina Locane starting their match down 6-0. They then went on a spectacular run to tie the match at seven games each. They followed up with a 7-5 victory in the tiebreaker to take the match 8-7.

Five different members of the team went on to finish the day undefeated with victories during the singles' portion of the day. In the closest of the match Bassett came back after dropping the first set to win the No. 4 match with scores of 4-6, 6-4, 10-6. Morales won in the next closest match with a 7-5, 6-3 win in the No. 1 match.

Maloney needed a few less games to pick up her win in the No. 5 match with a score of 6-3, 6-2. Locane and Pelliccia won in the most lopsided fashion of the day with a 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 3 match and a 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 6 match respectively.

The team improves to 10-3 overall and 2-0 in MIAA play following the win. They will continue their season when they travel to face Hope College on Friday, April 7. The match is set to start at 4 p.m.
