KOKOMO, Ind. -- The Trine University women's tennis team fell to their hosts from Indiana University Kokomo by the score of 5-2.
The match was scored using NAIA rules which assign just one team point to the doubles portion of the contest. That point went to the Cougars after they took two of the three matches. The lone Thunder victory went to No. 1 team of sophomores Emilee Bassett and Alexis Maloney by the score of 6-4.
Maloney became the only member of the team to finish the day undefeated by winning her singles match. She took the No. 3 match 6-1, 6-1. Junior Lizzie Welker earned the other team point by winning the No. 6 match 6-1, 6-2.
The Thunder fall to 3-2 following the loss. Members of the team will next compete when they travel to the ITA Regional Championships in St. Louis, Mo. The three day event is scheduled to begin on Friday, September 22.
