ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's tennis team swept the visiting squad from The University of Olivet, picking up their first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) victory of the year by the score of 9-0.
Elina Locane and Alexis Maloney opened the day with a sweep of their own in the No. 1 doubles match, winning by the score of 8-0. Both Emilee Bassett and Haley Straub in the No. 2 match and Kennedy Outwater and Lizzie Welker in the No. 3 match came up with 8-1 victories to build a 3-0 team lead.
The domination continued in the singles portion of the dual, with four different members of the team winning their matches in sweeps. Locane at No. 1, Bassett at No. 2, Maloney at No. 3 and Outwater at No. 5 all won with 6-0, 6-0 scores. Lillian Trinh won in the No. 6 match with a score of 6-2, 6-0. Finally in the closest match of the day, Straub won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4.
Trine improves to 9-4 overall and 1-0 in MIAA play following the lopsided victory. They are set for another MIAA match on Wednesday, March 27 when they host Hope College for a 4 p.m. contest.
