Women's Tennis Sends Britons Home with Loss

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's tennis team picked up their tenth win of the season after defeating Albion College 7-2 in the third Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) dual of the spring.

The Thunder secured two team points during the doubles portion of the contest. In the closest of the doubles matches, Elina Locane and Alexis Maloney won at No. 1 with a score of 8-4. Then in the No. 3 match Kennedy Outwater and Lizzie Welker won 8-3.

Trine quickly extended their lead, taking the first two singles matches in convincing fashion. Locane won in the No. 1 match 6-0, 6-4 and Emilee Bassett took the No. 2 match 6-1, 6-1. The No. 3 and No. 4 match both started with the Britons taking a set, Maloney at No. 3 was able to comeback for the clinching team point with scores of 4-6, 6-3, 6-0. Outwater and Welker took the final two matches of the day to pull away in the contest.

The Thunder improve to 10-5 overall and 2-1 in MIAA play following the win. They will continue their season when they host Adrian College on Tuesday, April 9 for a 4 p.m. dual.
