THUNDER PICK UP THREE WINS AT INDOOR MEET

Women’s 4x400m Relay Sets School Record

 

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Trine University track and field teams had a good day at the Michigan-Indiana Invitational hosted by Calvin College on February 25. The women’s 4x200m relay team set a school record as the Thunder men finished fourth while the women place sixth.

The Trine men’s team finished with 96 points, 18 points behind Aquinas for third. The ladies finished with 53 points, also trailing Aquinas for fifth by eight points. Calvin won both the men’s and women’s team titles with 134 and 161.5 points respectively.

Trine runners took home three wins as freshman Anthony Yoder (Goshen, Ind./Concord) won the 60m hurdles in a time of 8.70, freshman Trisha King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) won the 400m with a time of 1:00.70 and the men’s 4x200m relay took home the gold finishing a full second ahead of the runner-up in a time of 1:33.25.

Freshman Tyler Bourdo (Plainwell, Mich./Delton Kellogg) nearly made it a sweep for the Thunder in the 400m as he finished second in a time of 50.57, just .05 seconds behind the winner. Juniors Corbin Buckler (Marion, Ind./Eastbrook) and Matt Burgess (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) took home a pair of fifth place finishes in the mile run (4:35.50) and the 5,000m (15:52.05) respectively. The men’s 4x400m relay also had a solid performance finishing fourth with a time of 3:27.80.

In the field events, the Thunder came up huge in the long jump, taking home three of the top five and four of the top eight spots in the event. Bourdo finished second with a leap of 6.38m while freshman Nate Grigsby (6.21m), senior Andrew Stein (6.16) and junior Andre Hilson (6.03) finished fourth, fifth and eight respectively. Stein also picked up a third place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 12.61m. In the throwing events, junior Dustin Stutzman (Topeka, Ind./Westview) finished third in the shot put with a throw of 15.17m and fifth in the weight throw with a toss of 12.57m.

On the women’s side, the 4x400m relay of King, juniors Annalisa Krug (Battle Creek, Mich./Pennfield) and Sannie Anderson (Hesperia, Mich./Hesperia) along with freshman Allison Everetts (Kokomo, Ind./Western)set a new school record with a time of 4:10.52 as they finished third. Krug also had an outstanding performance in the 800m as she placed second with a time of 2:22.92.

Freshman Erika Rockwell (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater ) picked up Thunder’s highest finish in the field events, placing second in the shot put with a throw of 11.68m. Courtney Stahl (Lowell, Ind./Lowell Senior), a junior,finished fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 12.39m.

The team will travel to the North Central (Ill.) last chance meet on March 3, as they attempt to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Nationals.
