WINEMAN SETS POLE VAULT RECORD AT HOME MEET

ANGOLA, Ind. - The Trine University track and field team hosted their first invitational of the season where the men’s team took first while the women’s team finished second.

The men’s team finished the meet with 193 points, well ahead of second place Davenport who had 122. Trine’s depth proved key as they took gold in just four events on the night. Leading the way was All-MIAA senior Dustin Stutzman (Topeka, Ind./Westview) who won both the shot put and weight throw. In the shot, Stutzman threw a distance of 15.70m while tossing a distance of 13.50m in the weight.

Fellow senior Nate Konzen (Toledo, Ohio/Toledo Christian) also picked up two top finishes, winning the 800m and helping the 4x400m relay to a first place finish. In the 800m, Konzen took home the top time finishing in 2:01.21. In the relay, Konzen teamed with fellow senior Dan Linder (DeWitt, Mich./Grand Ledge), sophomore Tyler Bourdo (Plainwell, Mich./Delton-Kellogg) and freshman Luke Fimreite (McCordsville, Ind./Mount Vernon) to finish in a time of 3.27.17, over six seconds ahead of the second place team.

On the women’s side, the Thunder finished just 14.5 points behind Spring Arbor who won with 155 points. The women took home three first place finishes, all in running events. However, the highlight of the night for Trine came in the pole vault as junior Katie Wineman (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) broke her own school record, clearing a height of 2.90m (9' 6.25").

All-MIAA sophomore Trisha King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) took home first place in the 400m with a time of 1:00.89. In the 800m, senior Annalisa Krug (Battlecreek, Mich./Pennfield) won the event with a time of 2:23.36. Rounding out the wins for the Thunder was sophomore Kelly Scholer (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown) in the 3,000m run where she finished with a time of 11:36.41, four seconds ahead of her nearest competitor.

The teams will next compete at the Indiana Wesleyan Relays on January 26 beginning at 12:00 p.m.
