THUNDER PICKUP THREE GOLD’S AT IWU INVITE

MARION, Ind. - The Trine University track and field teams picked up three wins, two women’s and one men’s, at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational where they competed against schools across all three NCAA divisions and the NAIA.

On the men’s side, Trine’s win came in the 4x400m relay. The team of seniors Dan Linder (DeWitt, Mich./Grand Ledge) and Nate Konzen (Toledo, Ohio/Toledo Christian) along with sophomore Tyler Bourdo (Plainwell, Mich./Delton-Kellogg) and freshman Luke Fimreite (McCordsville, Ind./Mount Vernon) beat 18 other teams, including several NCAA Division I squads with a time of 3:26.83. The distance medley relay team of Konzen and Fimreite along with junior Michael Hammond (Decatur, Ind./Bellmont) and freshman Matt Kretschmer (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville) picked up a second place finish with a time of 11:11.27.

Bourdo would also take home a third place finish in the 400m with a time of 49.66, finishing behind two runners from a Division II school.

Senior Dustin Stutzman (Topeka, Ind./Westview) turned in two solid performances in the shot put and weight throws. Stutzman finished third in the shot with a distance of 15.85m, while coming in sixth in the weight with a heave of 13.79m.

Sophomore Trisha King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) took home the women’s lone individual victory as she finished the 600m in a time of 1:38.94. Senior Annalisa Krug (Battle Creek, Mich./Pennfield) also turned in a solid performance in the 1,000m as she finished runner-up, completing the race in a time of 3:08.46.

King and Krug teamed with sophomore Kelly Scholer (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown) and freshman Gabbie Bates (Hesperia, Mich./Hesperia) to win the 4x800m relay with a time of 10:07.51. In the distance medley relay, King, Krug and Scholer joined up with senior Sannie Anderson (Hesperia, Mich./Hesperia) to place third, behind only Division I schools IUPUI and Ball St., with a time of 13:16.67.

Trine will return home to host the second Trine Invitational on February 1 beginning at 4:00 p.m.
