STAHL BREAKS SCHOOL RECORD IN WEIGHT THROW AT HOME

ANGOLA, Ind. - At the second Trine University Track and Field Invitational of the year, the Thunder teams turned in several top performances including a new school record in the weight throw by senior Courtney Stahl (Lowell, Ind./Lowell Senior).

The Trine men’s team placed third with 82 points as Aquinas took first with a team total of 249 points. The lone win for the men’s squad in the running events came from the 4x400m relay team of seniors Nate Konzen (Toledo, Ohio/Toledo Christian) and Dan Linder (DeWitt, Mich./Grand Ledge), sophomore Tyler Bourdo (Plainwell, Mich./Delton-Kellogg), freshman Luke Fimreite (McCordsville, Ind./Mount Vernon),  finishing in a time of 3:26.29.

In the field events, senior Dustin Stutzman (Topeka, Ind./Westview) took home gold in the shot put with a throw of 15.31m (50'2.75"). Stutzman and freshman Andrew Bunting (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) took second and third in the weight throw with a distance of 14.59m (47'10.5"). In the pole vault, junior Lincoln Frey (Pettisville, Ohio/Pettisville) placed third, clearing a height of 4.10m (13'5.25").

On the women’s side, the Thunder finished sixth with 54 points while Aquinas also took home the team title with 127 points. The Trine runners had an outstanding day, picking up three first place finishes on the day.

For the third straight meet, sophomore Trisha King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) took home a win, this time in the 400m, finishing in a time of 1:00.47. Senior Annalisa Krug (Battlecreek, Mich./Pennfield) won the 800m, coming home in a time of 2:25.10. The Thunder’s other victory also came in the 4x400m relay as the team of King, Krug, senior Sannie Anderson (Hesperia, Mich./Hesperia) and junior Katie Wineman (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) raced across the line with a time of 4:11.88. Freshman Gabbie Bates (Hesperia, Mich./Hesperia) also turned in a top performance for the Thunder, placing second in the 5,000m with a time of 20:17.82.

In the field events, Wineman and Stahl turned in the top performances for the Thunder, placing fifth in the pole vault and weight throw respectively. Stahl broke her own school record, throwing a distance of 13.41m (44'0"). Wineman on the other hand, nearly broke the school record she set just two weeks ago, clearing a height of 2.89m (9'5.75"), just half-an-inch shy of her record mark.

The teams will next travel to Defiance College for the Defiance Open on February 8 beginning at 4:00 p.m.
