THUNDER HOST INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

ANGOLA, Ind. - Although the MIAA does not sponsor Indoor Track & Field, Trine University hosted the Trine Indoor Championships that featured most of the conference schools. The Thunder men placed second with 112 points while the women were fifth with 78 points. Junior Katie Wineman (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) also broke her own school record in the pole vault during the meet.

Calvin won the men’s meet with 172.5 points. Leading the way for the Thunder was sophomore Tyler Bourdo (Plainwell, Mich./Delton-Kellogg) as he won both the 200m and 400m while anchoring the 4x400m relay that also took home gold. In the 200m, Bourdo finished in a time of 22.38, just edging out the second place finisher. Bourdo took down reigning MIAA 400m outdoor champion Chad Allemon from Adrian, winning by nearly two seconds with a time of 49.11. In the relay, Bourdo teamed up with freshman Luke Fimreite (McCordsville, Ind./Mount Vernon) and seniors Dan Linder (DeWitt, Mich./Grand Ledge) and Nate Konzen (Toledo, Ohio/Toledo Christian) to finish nearly six seconds ahead of their nearest competition with a time of 3:22.83.

Konzen also picked up fourth place in the 800m run, finishing with a time of 1:59.88. In the 60m hurdles, freshman James Gregory (Warsaw, Ind./Tippecanoe Valley) also took home fourth with a time of 8.89.

In the field events, senior Dustin Stutzman (Topeka, Ind./Westview) finished first in the shot put with a distance of 16.32m (53'6.5"). Stutzman nearly pulled off dual victories as he placed second in the weight throw, clearing a distance of 14.21m (46'7.5"). Taking home third in the pole vault was junior Lincoln Frey (Pettisville, Ohio/Pettisville) who cleared a height of 3.95m (12'11.5").

On the women’s side, Calvin also took home the top spot with 172 points as the Thunder finished just six points behind Adrian who placed fourth.

The women’s team took home a pair of wins in the running events. Sophomore Trisha King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) picked up gold for the Thunder in the 400m with a time of 59.42. In the 800m, it was senior Annalisa Krug (Battlecreek, Mich./Pennfield) who placed first with a time of 2:20.58, winning by more than two seconds.

King and Krug teamed up with Wineman and senior Sannie Anderson (Hesperia, Mich./Hesperia) to place second in the 4x400m relay with a time of 4:07.84.

In the field events, Wineman surpassed her previous mark in the pole vault by 5.5 inches en-route to a second place finish, clearing a height of 3.05m (10'0"). In the weight throw, senior Courtney Stahl (Lowell, Ind./Lowell Senior) placed third with a throw of 13.70m (44'11.5").
