ANGOLA, IND.-- Trine's track and field teams turned in another successful performance in the Trine Invitational, held Friday at Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic Recreation Center.

Lincoln Frey (Pettisville, Ohio/Pettisville) set a new Trine indoor record in the Pole Vault. The senior vaulted 4.55 meters (14'-11.13"), topping his previous-best mark mark by about half an inch. Frey has improved his vault height by over a foot since the beginning of last season. Kelsey Ortiz (Swanton, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) turned in the ladies' best finish, coming in second in the 3000 Meter Run with a time of 11:53.94. She finished just 0.24 seconds behind the first-place time. It was Ortiz's highest finish in an event this season.

Andrew Bunting (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) continues to show improvement in the Weight Throw. The sophomore's throw of 15.37 meters (50'-5.13") was a little over a foot better than his previous-best effort this season. Since the beginning of the season, Bunting has improved his throw distance by over three feet.

Jennifer Steyer (Fenton, Mich./Lake Fenton) took a big step forward with a season-best throw in the Weight throw. Steyer's heave of 13.09 meters (42'-11.35") was nearly three feet better than her previous-best toss this season. The throw was good enough for seventh place.

Freshman Austin Ganger (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka) shortened up from his typical long-distance events to place third in the 800 Meter Run. Ganger turned in a time of 2:06.17 in the event.

The 4 x 400 Meter Relay team added a second-place finish, coming just under a second behind the winning group from Grace College and Seminary.

Kassandra Ellsworth (Saugerties, N.Y./Kingston) showed off her versatility for the Thunder, finishing fourth in the 60 Meter Hurdles with a season-best time and ninth in the Shot Put.

Ariel McCoy (Garrett, Ind./Garrett) and Courtney Forsythe (West Mansfield, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) continued to pace the ladies in the One-Mile Run, finishing eighth and ninth respectively.

The Thunder track and field teams will host the Jon and Carol Liechty Alumni Invitational next Friday, Feb. 21. Alumni are encouraged to register for events and attend the meet.
