Thunder Place Seventh in MIAA Jamboree

ALMA, MICH.-- The Trine women's track and field team placed seventh in the MIAA Jamboree, held Saturday at Bahlke Field.

Trisha King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) set a new school-record in the 1500 Meter Run. The Thunder got two second-place finishes and several other solid performances on the day. Trine's performances resulted in the team earning 242 points. The MIAA Jamboree was hosted by Alma College. Calvin finished first overall with 937.5 points. The top 20 finishers in each non-relay event earned points for their team.

King annihilated the previous school-record in the 1500 Meter Run. She ran a time of 4:41.03 to eclipse the previous record, set by Annalise Krug in 2013, by eight seconds. She finished second in the event.

King also finished second in the 800 Meter Run with a time of 2:16.99. Kelsey Ortiz (Swanton, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) finished 12th in the event, and added an 11th-place finish in the 1500 Meter Run.

Kadie Kachmaryk (Standish, Mich./Au Gres-Sims) finished seventh in the Pole Vault. Niki Salzman's (Wheeling, Ill./Buffalo Grove) ninth-place finish in the 400 Meter Dash rounded out Trine's top-10 finishes on the day.

Trine also saw success in throwing events. Kayla Johnson (Bronson, Mich./Bronson) and Jennifer Steyer (Missouri Valley, Iowa/Missouri Valley) each turned in 10th-place finishes, with Johnson's coming in the Javelin Throw and Steyer's coming in the Hammer Throw.

Sloan Davis (Charlotte, Mich./Olivet) and Kassandra Ellsworth (Saugerties, N.Y./Kingston) finished 14th and 15th respectively in the Shot Put. Davis also placed 12th in the Discus.

Trine will compete in Al Owens Invitational, which will be held Apr. 18-19 at Grand Valley State University.
