TRINE TRACKSTERS COMPETE AT A PAIR OF INVITES

ANGOLA, Ind. - The Trine University track and field teams spent their Saturday at two different events as the runners participated in the Michigan State Spartan Invitational while the team’s throwers traveled to the Anderson University Raven Invitational.

At the MSU meet, the Thunder teams competed against schools across all three NCAA divisions.

The men’s 4x400m relay team turned in the top performance at the meet as they finished second with a time of 3:21.30. The team of seniors Dan Linder (DeWitt, Mich./Grand Ledge) and Nate Konzen (Toledo, Ohio/Toledo Christian) along with sophomore Tyler Bourdo (Plainwell, Mich./Delton-Kellogg) and freshman Luke Fimreite (McCordsville, Ind./Mount Vernon) finished just .20 seconds behind Eastern Michigan and beat out the likes of Michigan State, Notre Dame and Grand Valley State.

Bourdo would also have the top individual finish as the meet as he placed third in the 400m with a time of 49.54. Bourdo was second among collegiate runners and just .10 of a second off the top mark. Also in the 400m, Linder placed 13th with a time of 51.51. Bourdo also finished 11th in the 200m with a time of 22.33.

On the women’s side, the 4x400m relay team also turned in a solid performance, finishing 13th. The quartet of seniors Sannie Anderson (Hesperia, Mich./Hesperia) and Annalisa Krug (Battlecreek, Mich./Pennfield) along with junior Katie Wineman (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) and sophomore Trisha King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) came across the line in a combined time of 4:13.49. King also turned in the women’s tops individual performance in the 800m as she placed 17th with a time of 2:22.46.

At the Anderson meet, the Trine throwers had an outstanding day as they took home seven top-5 finishes.

On the men’s side, senior Dustin Stutzman (Topeka, Ind./Westview) picked up Trine’s lone win in the shot put with a distance of 16.03m (52-07.25ft). Stutzman would also place fifth in the hammer throw with a distance of 44.23m (145-01ft). In the discus, the Thunder got a pair of top-5 finishes from junior Clayton Whistler (Rochester, Ind./Rochester) and freshman Sam Gilly (St. Joseph, Ill./St. Joseph-Ogden). Whistler would finish second with a throw of 41.49m (136-01ft) and Gilly placed fourth with a distance of 41.27m (135-05ft).

For the women’s team, senior Danielle Reenders (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) turned in the top finish for the Thunder placing second in the javelin with a throw of 33.67m (110-05ft). Fellow senior Courtney Stahl (Lowell, Ind./Lowell Senior) had a pair of top-5 performances, placing third in the shot put with a toss of 10.50m (34-05.5ft) and was fourth in the hammer with a throw of 39.62m (130-00ft).

The team will begin their conference season as they travel to Olivet for the MIAA Jamboree on April 13 beginning at 10:00 a.m.
