Thunder Women Fourth at Indoor Championships

ANGOLA, Ind.-- The Trine women's track and field team placed fourth in the Trine Indoor Championships, hosted Saturday at Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic Recreation Center.

Efforts by Thunder competitors earned the team 75 points. A school-record and five first-place finishes helped pace the Trine effort. The women placed eighth in a similar event at Calvin last winter. The Trine Indoor Championships served as an unofficial championship featuring MIAA schools that sponsor indoor track and field. The MIAA will begin to officially sponsor the sport next winter.

Trisha King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) accounted for two first-place finishes. The senior ran a school-record 5:05.62 to win the Mile Run. She added a win in the 800 M. King ranks fourth in the nation in the 800 M.

Kara Eck (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) picked up two more first-place finishes for the Thunder. Eck combined with Jenn Steyer (Fenton, Mich./Lake Fenton) to take the top two spots in the Weight Throw, and added a win in the Shot Put. Eck is currently ninth in the nation in the Weight Throw.

That was part of a strong day for Thunder throwers, as Codee Colby (Michigan Center, Mich./Michigan Center) added a fourth-place finish in the Shot Put and a PR in the Weight Throw.

Trine's Distance Medley Relay team picked up the final first-place finish of the day. Courtney Forsythe (West Mansfield, Ohio/Benjamin Logan), Gigi Jarratt (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso), Heather Richardson (Fort Wayne, Ind./South Side) and Kelsey Ortiz (Swanton, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) combined to run a time of 13:30.01 in the event.

Forsythe added a seventh-place finish in the Mile Run with a personal-best time. Ortiz also saw individual success, finishing eighth in the 5K.

Grace Connolly (Sheridan, Ill./Serena) added personal-bests in the 200 M and 60 M. The sophomore placed seventh in the 200 M and eighth in the 60 M.

The Trine Indoor Championships concludes the indoor season for most Thunder performers. Several Thunder student-athletes could to solidify qualifying performances for the National Championships by competing last-chance meets next weekend, while others have already locked-up berths.

An announcement on Trine performers traveling to the NCAA Division III National Championships will be made Monday, Mar. 9.
