Bourdo, Eck, King Heading to National Championships

ANGOLA, Ind.-- Three Trine track and field performers will compete in the NCAA Division III National Championships this weekend.

Tyler Bourdo (Plainwell, Mich./Delton-Kellogg), Kara Eck (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) and Trisha King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) will head to Winston-Salem, N.C. to compete for national titles in their respective events. Bourdo, a reigning All-American, will be competing in his third Indoor championship. Eck will make her first appearance in the national meet in the Weight Throw. King will compete in the 800 M for the second-consecutive season after earning All-America honors last winter.  The National Championship meet is being hosted by Roanoke College at JDL Fast Track.

Bourdo enters the weekend with the 10th-best time in the nation in the 400 M after running a time of 49.09 in the Trine Indoor Championships. The senior is the school's record holder in the event. Bourdo placed fifth in the nation to earn All-America honors at last winter's championship meet. The preliminaries of the 400 M are slated to be run at 2:45 p.m. Friday. The top eight times advance to Saturday's championship race, also slated for 2:45 p.m.

Eck debuted by breaking the school-record in the Weight Throw in her first meet at Trine and only got better from there. She most-recently threw a distance of 57 feet, 3.75 inches at the Polar Bear Last Chance Qualifier to set yet another school-best mark. Eck is seeded seventh entering the national meet. The Weight Throw championship will be held Friday at 4:30 p.m.

King placed fifth in the nation in the 800 M in last year's championship meet and will look to lock up a second-consecutive All-American performance. The senior enters the national meet seeded fifth in the nation with a 2:13.30 qualifying time, which she ran at the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic. King is the school-record holder in the event. The preliminaries of the 800 M are set to be run Friday at 4:05 p.m. The top eight performers advance to Saturday's championship race, slated for the same time.
