Eck Named MIAA Field Athlete of the Week

FREELAND, Mich.-- Trine's Kara Eck has been named the MIAA Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Eck (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) set a school-record in the hammer throw at the Vanderbilt University Black and Gold Invitational with a toss of 152 feet, 10.5 inches to break the old school-record by 18 feet. The freshman placed third in a field that included mostly Division I and II competition. Eck also placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 37 feet, 8.75 inches and 10th in the discus. She is being honroed as Athlete of the Week for the first time in her collegiate career.

The performances marked a strong outdoor debut for Eck after an indoor campaign that included All-America honors in the weight throw. Eck set school-records in the weight throw and shot put during the indoor season. She placed sixth in the nation in the weight throw to earn her first-career All-America honors.

Trine returns to action this Saturday, Apr. 4 at the DePauw Invitational. Events are slated to get underway at noon.
