Thunder Women Place Eighth at DePauw

GREENCASTLE, Ind.-- The Trine women's track and field team placed eighth in the DePauw Invitational, held Saturday at Blackstock Stadium.

Thunder competitors notched one first-place finish, two second-place finishes and set one new school-record to highlight the team's performance in the meet. Courtney Forsythe (West Mansfield, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) notched Trine's first-place finish in the steeplechase. For the second week in a row, Kara Eck (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) set a new school-best mark in the hammer throw. Trine performers earned the team 33 points. Nine teams representing all collegiate levels of competition were represented in the meet.

Forsythe's winning 3000-meter steeplechase time came in at 11:38.75. The junior also set a personal-best mark in the event by one minute, 14 seconds. She finished five seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

Eck's throw of 154 feet, four inches in the hammer throw was good enough for second and another school-record. The freshman had set a school-mark in the event last week. Jenn Steyer (Fenton, Mich./Lake Fenton) topped her old personal-best mark to place third in the hammer throw, beating her previous-best by six feet with a throw of 145 feet, 11 inches.

Eck also finished second in the shot put with a throw of 41 feet, 10 inches. Eck was second only to a performer from Division-I competitor Valparaiso in the hammer throw and shot put.

Codee Colby (Michigan Center, Mich./Michigan Center) added an eight-place finish in the hammer throw to earn points for the Thunder. Other highlights included a new personal-best outdoor track 5K time for Kelsey Ortiz (Swanton, Ohio/Anthony Wayne).

Trine will compete in the MIAA Jamboree on Saturday, Apr. 11 at Adrian College.
