Thunder Place Sixth at MIAA Jamboree

ADRIAN, Mich.-- The Trine women's track and field team placed sixth in the MIAA Jamboree, held Saturday at Adrian College.

Highlights for the Thunder included two first-place finishes and two second-place finishes. Kara Eck (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) accounted for both first-place performances and one second-place finish. Trine performers accumulated 310 points in the event. Hope won the team competition with 1015 points.

Eck won both the hammer throw and shot put. The freshman's hammer throw came in at 146 feet, 8 inches while the shot put throw was 41 feet, 5.25 inches. Eck also placed second in the discus.

Jenn Steyer (Fenton, Mich./Lake Fenton) placed second in the hammer throw with another solid performance. Steyer's throw was measured at 135 feet.

Kelsey Ortiz (Swanton, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) placed second in her first-career performance in the 10K. The junior ran a time of 41:44.13 in the event.

Hallie Roof-Hildreth vaulted 9 feet, 0.25 inches to place fifth in the pole vault.

Courtney Forsythe (West Mansfield, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) set a personal-best in the 5K. Forsythe topped her previous career-best from the indoor season by 40 seconds with a time of 19:10.61.

Lydia Suchecki (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake) notched a new personal-best in the high jump, placing seventh with a jump of 4 feet, 9 inches. Ashtyn Capen (Saint Louis, Mich./Saint Louis) added a seventh-place performance in the 100-meter hurdles.

Codee Colby (Michigan Center, Mich./Michigan Center) had a well-rounded day in throwing events, placing fifth in the shot put, eighth in the discus and ninth in the hammer throw.

Trine will compete in Grand Valley State University's Al Owens Classic next Saturday, April 18.
