Three Top-10 Finishes Highlight Al Owens Classic

ALLENDALE, Mich.-- Three top-10 finishes and numerous personal-bests highlighted the performance of the Trine women's track and field team in the Al Owens Classic at Grand Valley State University.

Kara Eck (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) and Courtney Forsythe (West Mansfield, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) each notched fifth-place finishes in their respective events for the best Thunder performances on the day. Lydia Suchecki (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake) added a sixth-place finish with a personal-best. Four other Trine performers set personal-bests. The Thunder placed 16th overall in the meet with 10 points. The field included performers from all NCAA Divisions, NAIA and junior college.

Eck was the best Division-III performer in the shot put, throwing a distance of 41 feet, 2.5 inches. That was good enough for fifth-place. Eck has been the MIAA Field Athlete of the Week each of the last three weeks.

Forsythe placed fifth in the 3000-meter steeplechase. The junior ran a time of 11:59.38.

Suchecki tied for sixth in the high jump, setting a new personal-best in the process. The freshman topped 5 feet, 1.75 inches for her second-career performance of over five feet in the event.

Trine personal-bests on the track included Grace Connolly (Sheridan, Ill./Serena) in the 200-meter dash, Heather Richardson (Fort Wayne, Ind./South Side) in the 800-meter run, Kyla Binfet (West Yellowstone, Mont./West Yellowstone) in the 1500-meter run.

Codee Colby (Michigan Center, Mich./Michigan Center) notched a new personal-best in the discus as part of the team's field performance. Jenn Steyer (Fenton, Mich./Lake Fenton) added a 12th-place finish in the hammer throw.

Trine will compete in the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic, April 24-25 at Hillsdale College.
