Thunder Third after Day One of Field Day

ALBION, Mich.-- A school-record and strong performances in the field has Trine in third place after day one of MIAA Field Day, hosted by Albion College.

Kara Eck (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) and Jenn Steyer (Fenton, Mich./Lake Fenton) took home the top two spots on the hammer throw. Eck set a new school-record by over 13 feet with a throw of 167 feet, 5 inches to place first. Steyer set a new personal-record with a throw of 150 feet, 11 inches. Codee Colby (Michigan Center, Mich./Michigan Center) set a new PR by 14 feet to finish fifth in the event.

Eck also placed third in the discus with a throw of 118 feet, 4 inches. Colby set her second of two new personal-bests in the discus to place ninth.

Another Trine performer that turned in a new personal-best was Hallie Roof-Hildreth (Jasper, Mich./Sand Creek), who placed third in the pole vault. Roof-Hildreth vaulted a height of 9 feet, 9.25 inches to top her previous career-best performance by six inches.

Lydia Suchecki (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake) placed eighth in the high jump. Kelsey Ortiz (Swanton, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) added a personal-best time in the 10K to finish 10th.

The performances totaled 35 points to place the Thunder in third place. Calvin leads overall with 91.50 points.

MIAA Field Day concludes tomorrow at Albion College.
