Eck Named to All-MIAA Team

FREELAND, Mich.-- Trine's Kara Eck has been named to the All-MIAA Women's Track and Field team, the conference announced Thursday.

Eck (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) picked up the first all-conference nod of her career. The freshman set a new MIAA-record in the hammer throw with a throw of 167 feet, 5 inches at MIAA Field Day. The mark topped the previous conference record by 22 feet. The throw also set a new school-record by 13 feet. Eck went on to place third in the discus. Her performance helped the Thunder to a sixth-place finish at Field Day.

The honor is the latest in a strong debut campaign for the freshman. Eck has set school-records in the shot put, hammer throw and weight throw since the beginning of the indoor season. She earned All-American honors in the weight throw, placing sixth in the nation. Eck won MIAA Field Athlete of the Week honors three times during the outdoor season.

Eck is currently ranked 21st in the nation in the hammer throw. The top 20 performers in the event typically receive invites to the National Championship meet.
