Eck Places 14th in Nation in Hammer Throw

CANTON, N.Y.-- Trine's Kara Eck placed 14th in the nation in the hammer throw Friday afternoon at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Championships.

Eck (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) threw a distance of 166 feet, 6 inches to conclude her freshman season. Eck was right in the thick of the hunt for All-America honors, but she fell just 6 feet, 2 inches short of placing in the top eight. She wrapped up her season having earned national berths in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Eck earned All-America honors in the weight throw during the indoor season, placing sixth in the nation.

Eck's first season as a member of the Thunder also saw her set school-records in the weight throw, hammer throw and shot put. She was an All-MIAA First Team performer during the outdoor season and was honored as the MIAA Women's Field Athlete of the Week three times.

The performance concluded the season for the Trine women's track and field team. The Thunder will return the bulk of a team that made numerous strides this past season, particularly in throwing events.
