School Record, First-Place Finish highlight performance in Indy

INDIANAPOLIS-- The Trine women's track and field set a school record and notched a first-place finish to highlight the team's performance in the University of Indianapolis Winter Break Meet.

Freshman Lydia Walterhouse (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble) set a new school record in the 60-meter hurdles. Her time of 9.74 seconds was run in the preliminaries of the event and bested the previous team record by a quarter second. The time marked the first ever sub-10 second time in the event by a Trine runner and the second straight year a Thunder freshman has set a new team record in the event.

The most successful Thunder performance in terms of placing came in the weight throw. Kara Eck (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) won the event with a throw of 57 feet, three inches, missing the program-best mark by just five inches. Jenn Steyer (Fenton, Mich./Lake Fenton) added a throw of 50 feet, 1.75 inches to place fourth, while Codee Colby (Michigan Center, Mich./Michigan Center) set a personal-best for the second straight week to finish eighth.

Eck also saw success in the shot put, placing fourth with a throw of 41 feet, 9.25 inches.

Elsewhere on the track, freshman Jensyn Garrow (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) placed fifth in the 600-meter run. Garrow's time came in at 1:46.31.
