Thunder to Compete for MIAA Indoor Title

ANGOLA, Ind.-- The Trine women's track and field team will host the inaugural MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championship this Saturday.

The Thunder enter the meet with the chance to earn high marks in the weight throw and shot put behind the work of Kara Eck (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) and Jenn Steyer (Fenton, Mich./Lake Fenton). Eck enters the MIAA Championships on track to earn National Championship bids in both events, highlighted by her No. 8 national ranking in the weight throw. Steyer ranks 28th nationally in the weight throw and gives the Thunder the top two MIAA performances in the event so far this year.

Jensyn Garrow (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) gives Trine a well-rounded performer capable of earning points in multiple events. The freshman set a school-record in the 60-meter dash earlier this season. She will also compete in the 400-meter dash, 200-meter dash and 4-x-400-meter relay.

Lacie Piekarski (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake) and Kelsey Ortiz (Swanton, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) will look to add points in the 5000-meter run. Ortiz set a new personal-best in the event this year, while Piekarski has been a consistent performer in distance events throughout the winter.

Kyla Binfet (West Yellowstone, Mont./West Yellowstone) will also look to add points in the 3000-meter run. Binfet was an All-MIAA Second Team performer during the cross country season.

Lydia Suchecki (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake) gives the Thunder a capable performer in the high jump. Suchecki is the school-record holder in the event. The sophomore set the program-best mark earlier this winter.

The MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held Saturday, Feb. 27 in Keith E. Busse/Steel Dymanics Athletic Recreation Center. Field events will begin at 9:30 a.m., with track events set to begin at noon. CLICK HERE for complete schedule of events.
