ANGOLA, Ind.-- The Trine women's track and field team placed fifth in the inaugural MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championship, held Saturday at Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamcis Athletics Recreation Center.
Lydia Suchecki notched the first individual conference title on the day for the Thunder. The sophomore won the high jump, clearing a height of 5 feet, 0.5 inches to narrowly miss tying her own school record. Suchecki earned gold in a conference meet for the first time in here career.
Jenn Steyer (Fenton, Mich./Lake Fenton) came up big for the Thunder to earn her first career conference win the weight throw. The junior set a new personal-best with a throw of 53 feet, 3.75 inches. Kara Eck (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) added a third-place finish in the event. Codee Colby (Michigan Center, Mich./Michigan Center) also scored for Trine with an eighth-place finish. Eck added a second-place finish in the shot put.fiffth
Jensyn Garrow (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) set a new school-record in the 200-meter dash, running a time of 27.30 to place eighth. Garrow's best performance on the day however came in the 400-meter dash, where she placed second. The freshman also broke her own school-record in the 60-meter dash preliminaries with a time of 8.40 seconds.
The Distance Medley Relay resulted in one of the most exciting finishes of the day. Kyla Binfet (West Yellowstone, Mont./West Yellowstone), Hannah Blystone (Carmel, Ind./Carmel), Courtney Forsythe (West Mansfield, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) and Samantha Stensland (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) combined to place third with a time of 13:08.44. Stensland overcame a deficit of several meters on the final stretch to edge ahead of another runner by .01 seconds for the third-place finish.
Blystone was able to notch points in two other events for the Thunder. The freshman finished fifth in the Mile run and added a seventh-place finish in the 800-meter run. Blystone has become a valuable mid-distance runner for Trine after competing in distance events during the cross country season.
Lacie Piekarski (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake) rounded out Trine's scorers with a sixth-place finish in the 5K. The freshman set a new PR in the event by 26 seconds to finish in 18:40.06.

Trine will look to solidify potential bids to the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championships next weekend.
