Steyer sets new Personal-Best in Final Qualifier

ADA, Ohio-- Trine's Jenn Steyer set a new personal-best in weight throw Saturday at Ohio Northern University's Polar Bear Final Qualifier.

Steyer (Fenton, Mich./Lake Fenton) came away with a toss of 53 feet, 11.25 inches to set a new personal-record for the second straight week. The performance came on the heels of the junior's All-MIAA first place finish in the inaugural MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championhsip. Steyer's efforts weren't quite enough to earn a bid to the national championships. She was ranked 28th in the nation in the event at the time of writing. 

Kara Eck (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) came away with a throw of 49 feet, 1 inch in the weight throw. The sophomore added a throw of 43 feet, 10.75 inches in the shot put to place third. Eck could potentially earn national championship bids in each event.

At the time of writing, Eck's top weight throw performance ranked 10th in the nation. Her top shot put efforts ranked 16th. The top 20 qualifiers in each event receive invites to the national meet.

An announcement of Trine's national qualifiers will be made Monday. The NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championships will be held March 11-12 in Grinnell, Iowa.
