Eck Places 16th in Nation in Weight Throw

GRINNELL, Iowa-- Trine's Kara Eck placed 16th in the weight throw at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championships, held Friday at Grinnell College's Bear Athletic Center.

Eck (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) unleashed a throw of 47 feet, 5 inches to earn the placing. The performance marked the second-consecutive nationals appearance in the weight throw for the the sophomore. She had previously earned All-America honors in the event last winter.

The performance was Eck's final chance at the weight throw this winter. She wraps up the season having earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors in the event. Eck set a school-record in the weight throw at the University of Indianapolis Winter Break Meet, a performance that helped her earn USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week honors.

Eck's winter season is not over, as she will make her first-career nationals appearance in the shot put tomorrow. The event is slated to get underway at 1:30 p.m.
