GRINNELL, Iowa-- Trine's Kara Eck earned All-America honors with her performance in the shot put Saturday afternoon at Grinnell College's Bear Athletic Center.

Eck (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) broke her own school-record in the event by nearly two feet to lock up the fourth-place finish. Her top throw was measured at 46 feet, 3.5 inches. The performance gave Eck the second All-America honor of her career, though it is her first such honor in the shot put. The fourth-place finish in the best ever by a Trine women's field performer at a national meet in program history. She joins Amanda Portis as the only two women's track and field student-athletes in team history to earn multiple All-America honors.

"Kara was very resilient today, and that led to not only a school-record toss, but also her second All-American honor in two years," said Rod Waters, head coach of the Trine track and field teams. "No one should ever count Kara out. She's a very determined individual and well-coached under [throws coach] Amanda Cope."

"I'm very proud to and happy for the both of them and excited to see what the outdoor season brings," Waters said.

Today's performance wrapped up the indoor season for Eck. In addition to her All-America honors in the shot put and second-straight nationals appearance in the weight throw, Eck earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors in the shot put and weight throw, was named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week and set school-records in both the weight throw and shot put.

The Trine women's track and field team will open the Outdoor season Saturday, Apr. 2 at the Hanover Invitational.
