Throwers lead Thunder in Performance at Defiance

DEFIANCE, Ohio-- A trio of throwers paced the performance of Trine women's track and field comptitors in the Dick Small Invitational.

Leading the way were the performances of Kara Eck (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) and Jenn Steyer (Fenton, Mich. / Lake Fenton) in the hammer throw. Eck won the event with a toss of 154 feet, with Steyer finishing second with an effort of 149 feet, 1 inch. Trine's duo launched throws more than 10 feet better than the third-place performer. Eck's throw currently ranks ninth in the nation, while Steyer's ranks 17th.

Codee Colby (Michigan Center, Mich. / Michigan Center) continued the strong performances for the Thunder in throwing events with a personal-record in the discus. Colby's effort of 101 feet, 9 inches placed eighth in the event.

On the track, Kelsey Ortiz (Swanton, Ohio / Anthony Wayne) notched a new personal-best in the 10K. Her time of 40:17.36 placed fourth.

Trine officially opens the outdoor season Saturday, Apr. 2 at the Hanover Invitational. Events are scheduled to begin at noon.
